Focaccia is flat, oven-baked bread. Originally from Italy, despite appearances it is not related to pizza but the style and texture are similar. It is also considered the Italian version of fougasse. It can be supplemented with other ingredients. It is usually seasoned with olive oil and salt, and sometimes herbs and optionally garnished with onion, cheese, meat or vegetables.

It can be eaten at any time, alone or with charcuterie and cheese or, as in Genoa, with coffee for breakfast. ​
